FAQ

How much insulation do I need in my attic?
Inadequate insulation and air leakage are leading causes of energy waste in most homes. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends people in Michigan/Indiana have R-49 insulation or approximately 10 inches of insulation in their attic. Proper insulation saves money and our nation's limited energy resources. It can also make your house more comfortable by helping to maintain a uniform temperature throughout the house.

To find out if you have enough attic insulation, measure the thickness of the insulation. If it is less than R-22 (7 inches of fiber glass or rock wool or 6 inches of cellulose), you could probably benefit by adding more.

What is "R-Value"?
A material's R-value is the measure of its resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the more the material insulates. R-values are determined by material type, thickness, and installed weight per square foot, not by thickness alone.

How much will I save on my energy bills?
The amount of energy you conserve will depend on several factors: the size, shape, and construction of your house; the living habits of your family; the type and efficiency of the heating and cooling systems; and the fuel you use. Once the energy savings have paid for the installation cost, energy conserved is money saved--and the annual savings will increase if utility rates go up.

I can buy home insulation at any major home improvement store. What makes Griffin's attic insulation different?
Griffin Pest Solutions only uses InCide© Pest Contol (PC) Insulation in your home. In addition to saving on energy bills InCide PC helps block out street noise. But what makes InCide insulation unique is that it's especially formulated to provide a protective barrier against ants, termites, crickets and other pests. InCide PC also contains a fire-retardant chemical that actually makes homes safer in case of fire. Ordinary fiberglass insulation can melt, creating a chimney-like effect in a wall. InCide PC, with its fire-retardant characteristics, forms a charred surface barrier which limits the spread of fire.

InCide PC insulation is blown-in your attic for better coverage and is made of 100% recycled paper. So, it's not only good for your home but good for the environment too.

How is the insulation installed?
InCide PC insulation is blown-in your attic and wall voids for better coverage and is made of 100% recycled product. So, it's not only good for your home but good for the environment too.

I would like to pay in installments rather than a lump sum. Is that possible?
We require payment in full upon installation. However, you may pay by credit card or take advantage of a home equity loan through your local bank if you would prefer to pay over time.

What are key indicators that I may not have enough insulation in my attic (without actually measuring)?
Key indicators that you may not have enough insulation in your attic include large icicles hanging from your roof and cold spots throughout your home.

Will you come out and do an inspection of my attic before I make a decision?
Yes. We'd be happy to schedule an attic inspection.
